New scam

In fact, when you look at all the fraudulent schemes, you understand that it is impossible for someone to think of this just like that, not involved in the field. I believe that there are people who at some point in time suddenly decide to go over to the “dark side”. How else to explain that such an elegant scheme and, in general, an approach to various kinds of extortion of money was invented.

How does the circuit work?

Our topic of discussion is a fraudulent scheme that was invented by investment scammers. Apparently the flow of those wishing to invest is ending and they had to invent something new, and they did! Recently, residents of Estonia (why Estonia? Our population is one, two, and counted) receive e-mail from fake postal addresses. The addresses are very similar to the addresses of real Estonian notaries. In these letters, scammers first of all offer to pay a notary commission for various kinds of services. Whether it is: receiving an inheritance, a state fee for the purchase and sale of an apartment or unpaid services. In general, quite an original approach. After all, if you think about it, if you received such a letter, it would at least make you start checking and google, since notaries always use their names and even public accounts are opened with their names. It is only logical that if you receive a request with the exact name of an existing notary, you might think. And an ordinary person could completely panic and transfer money if only there were no complaints.

Moreover, these scammers demand amounts that are several times higher than the standard prices for notary services. They also ask for amounts for something that is not even subject to notary fees.

According to DV Merle Saar-Johanson, head of the Chamber of Notaries, commented: “Scammers are so brazen that in one case, a scammer posing as a notary advised a person to take out a quick loan to pay the bill. We have already seen fake letters from foreign “notaries”, but so far we have not encountered a situation where the name of a notary actually working in Estonia would be used in this way.” (More on this here)

In general, be vigilant and it's amazing how resourceful scammers become.
